What is SolGen?

SolGen is an application that allows optimal positioning of solar panels on a building roof. This project was initiated during my masters degree studies at Israel Institute of Technology. Roman Berliant is a co-author of the project. SolGen is written in VBA and works on MS Excel.

The goal of the application is to create a Pareto front of all possible solutions, so the user could pick the best one for his needs. SolGen relies on genetic algorythm to find optimal solution for panel location.

SolGen works with rectangular, tilted, static solar panels that are located on a flat rectangular plane with one of its sides oriented eastwards. The user inputs plane parameters, solar panel parameters and site geographyc parameters. SolGen builds a plot of Average Yearly Power in kW VS. solar panel quantity.
